Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2024 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?

About the role

We are seeking an experienced legal operations manager/paralegal to join our in-house legal team. As our first operations hire, you will be a key member of Flex’s expanding Legal & Compliance team. You will collaborate closely with the legal team to provide comprehensive support to our cross-functional business partners and core product teams. Your deep knowledge of legal documentation and processes will foster hands-on collaboration with those across the team and company.

This rare opportunity is ideal for an entrepreneurial candidate, as you will be empowered to “think like an owner” and build materials and processes from the ground up. The right person will enjoy both working with people and thinking about systems. Your manager will be intensely focused on your development, and how to make Flex an accelerant for your skill-building and career.

What you’ll do

  • Manage the contract lifecycle, including intake, tracking, storing, and organizing agreements with partners, vendors, and service providers.
  • Manage the company’s state licensing book, including application and maintenance workflows and regulatory communications.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and revising contracts, agreements, and other legal documents with the support of Flex’s legal team.
  • Provide administrative support to the Legal team, including conducting research analysis, maintaining files, and organizing legal documents.
  • Serve as project manager for high-impact initiatives including supporting new legal tools, litigation, and intellectual property management.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Finance, Compliance, Marketing, Product, and Customer Support, to provide support and guidance.

Key qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Business, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in an in-house paralegal role, ideally within the fintech or financial services industry.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in legal operations tools and software, including Ironclad.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of consumer finance, data privacy, or contract law is a plus.
  • Experience managing state licensing requirements preferred.

The national pay range for this role is $110,000-$140,000 in base salary. Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience aligned with Flex's internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks.
